Wen Yipei was born in 1988 in Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, China, and currently lives and works in Beijing. He received his MFA from Pratt Institute in New York City in 2014, and BFA from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2012. Wen Yipei's painting practice delves into the everyday spatial structures, which he adopts as the medium to probe the outside world and the inner personal realm. His works often exhibit a visual combination of figuration and abstraction, simultaneously constructing abstract structures and representational facets within the same compositions. Through composure and attention to subtlety he is able to create a sense of actual next to remoteness, and move between depth and surface, concrete and virtual.
